The global accounting industry increased by 5.7 per cent in 2006 and is now worth more than $215bn (£105.2bn), a study by Research and Markets has revealed.
The study includes figures from the Americas, Asia-Pacific and European markets and has forecast that by 2011 the accountancy market will be valued at $274bn a rise of 74 per cent since 2006.
Last year, the global audit sector generated the majority of revenues, creating 42.9 per cent of the industry's global markets value.
The research also revealed the Americas to be the most lucrative global region for accountancy markets, contributing 56.9 per cent of the aggregate global market value.
The accountancy market consists of all revenues generated by global firms engaged in designing, preparing and auditing accounting records .
