It is widely believed that Chancellor Gordon Brown will be taking on the role of prime minister in the near future, especially after he delivered his Budget on Wednesday last week.
If the Chancellor moves on then there will be a vacancy at Number 11 Downing Street, with British bookmakers placing Alistair Darling as the favourite to succeed Gordon Brown as chancellor, at odds of about 7/4.
The bookies also include Jack Straw and Ed Balls in the running and people could take a gamble and make a bet on David Blunkett becoming the next Chancellor, at 399/1.
However, an accountancy magazine is running a competition to see if there are any accountants in the UK that are better qualified than the politicians to take on the challenging role.
Potential applicants are being invited by Accountancy Age to submit their CVs to the magazine, with a covering letter outlining why they believe they could take on the running of the UK's finances .
The prospective chancellors will be looked at and reviewed in detail by the editorial staff at the publication who will then pick out the best candidate, with the winner receiving a bottle of Champagne as their prize .
