Big Four Return Into List Of Top Ten Consultancies

Fri, 09 Nov 2007

The UK’s Big Four accountancy firms have brought themselves back into the top ten list of UK consulting firms this year, massively outgrowing the leaders in the marketplace.

Three of the Big Four firms, since re-entering the consulting market, have all seen an increase in work .

Leading the way is PricewaterhouseCoopers, whose fee income grew by 34 per cent to £289m, while KPMG’s grew by 13 per cent to £242m and Ernst and Young by 16 per cent to £198m.

In contrast, Accenture, IBM and Xansa grew headline revenues by just 2 per cent, 6per cent and 8 per cent respectively.

A survey of the UK financial market for 2007, carried out by Accountancy Age, revealed that the Big Four are all back in the top ten consulting firms by revenue .

The latest figures will be a great response to the market’s established players, who earlier this year provocatively suggested the Big Four didn’t have as much range and depth as they did.

David Owen, Deloitte’s managing director of consulting, said: "I’m pleased the Big Four had a good year. It confirms all types of client will look for our high-value advisory services ."

However, the survey also revealed that the firms still have some way to go to matching the revenues of the main players. Accenture made £851m in 2006, according to the Accountancy Age, while the market as a whole grew income by 12 per cent to just under £6billion.
