A corrupt accountant has admitted to 53 charges of fraud, after being caught sneaking a total of ₤700,000 into his own account to live out a luxury lifestyle .

The case, which was held at Reading Crown Court, heard that conman Geoffrey Turner signed 271 cheques worth thousands of pounds, between 1998 and 2001, in his bosses' or other employees' names before funnelling them into his own accounts .

Turner, who has a series of fraud and theft convictions dating back to 1970, added to his accounts while working in charge of all finances at marketing firm Market Penetration Services International (MPS) and its sister company Business to Business Internet International, based in High Wycombe .

MPS retired group chairman Michael Libra estimated Turner’s fraudulent activities cost the firm £700,000 in total.

Turner, who lived in the affluent commuter town of Blackwater, Hampshire, admitted 53 charges including false accounting, obtaining money by deception, theft and forgery.

Judge Gordon Risius labelled Turner as ‘thoroughly corrupt and deceitful’, adding that he had ‘seriously breached his employers' trust which nearly led to them becoming bankrupt .
