Accountancy professionals in the UK received basic salary increases by an average of 3.7 per cent during 2007, according to new figures complied by Badenoch and Clark.
However, the statistics found that the rise in salaries amongst qualified staff working in practice trailed the amount received in some industry sectors.
Those working in energy fared best, with an average rise of 5.3 per cent, while accountancy professionals in property, pharmaceuticals, media and financial services also benefited from above average increases.
But the statistics also showed that accountants working in services and consultancy experienced an average pay increment of just 2.7 per cent.
The report, published by the Office for National Statistics, also revealed that managers employed at Big Four accountancy firms earned between £48,000 and £65,000 per year, compared with the £45,000 to £55,000 salary received by those undertaking equivalent roles in middle-tier practices .
Annual salaries for qualified auditors were found to be between £42,000 and £60,000, while part-qualified internal auditors earned an average of £33,000.
