Big Four accountancy firm KPMG has unveiled a range of measures aimed at offering support for expectant and new mothers among its workforce.
The firm's My Family Matters initiative provides assistance for such employees, including cover for up to 20 days of emergency childcare costs, a mentoring scheme designed to help young parents, and extending the eligibility criteria for full maternity pay .
Sarah Bond, head of diversity at KPMG, said the firm had to take action to ensure it continues to retain its talented female staff members, as rising childcare costs are making it increasingly difficult for mothers to be able to return to work on a part time basis.
Ms Bond explained: "Our returner rates from maternity leave are high - but with signs that pressures will only grow in the future, we recognise the need to keep on evolving our package of support ."
A recent Sunday Times poll named KPMG as the UKs Best Big Company to Work For. Other accounting giants such as Ernst and Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Deloitte were al also included in the newspapers top 20 list.
