Accountants are reportedly the most likely company employees to fall ill as a result of work, a health specialist has revealed.
Research by Beneden Healthcare found that 24 per cent of people working either as an accountant or in the finance sector admitted to feeling ill due to the demands of their job, while 68 per cent of respondents said they regularly feel "run-down" as a result of their work .
Speaking to Accountancy Magazine, Paul Keenan, from Beneden Healthcare, said that the health of workers is a "particular concern" in the current economic climate, as people are more "under pressure to work hard".
"It is important for employers to take into account the health impact work can have on their employees, and that they ensure their employees get sufficient rest time to recuperate from illness," he added.
The importance placed on accountants was highlighted in a recent survey carried out by accounting software provider Sage .
The company found that 35 per cent of independent business leaders go to their accountants first for financial advice as they are the "most trusted".
