Britains highest earning accountant received an income of more than £5.7 million during the last twelve months, it has been revealed.
Accountancy Magazine has reported that John Connolly, the UK senior partner and global chairman of Deloitte, earned the mega pay package after the global advisory firm saw its annual profits top £650 million a 16 per cent rise year on year.
Mr Connolly received a 22 per cent rise in profit shares to make him the highest paid accountant in Britain, while the impressive growth meant each of Deloitte's partners earned an average of £970,000 for the year ending May 31.
Speaking to the magazine about the firm's increase in annual profits, Mr Connolly said: "Our performance, which I regard as very strong in these markets, reflects a continuous and relentless twin focus on our clients and people."
However, Mr Connolly warned that he does "not expect" the UK economy to begin its recovery in the next year.
