Accountants In Higher Demand

A new study has suggested that demand for professional accountants will continue to grow in corporate recovery, insolvency, assurance and compliance work, as a result of the economic downturn.

The findings from the Global Leadership Survey, carried out by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), revealed that CEO’s and presidents of over 100 accountancy firms reported an increase in the need for services related to the current financial markets turmoil.

IFAC chief executive Ian Ball said: "The credit crisis is resulting in increased awareness of the value of professional accountants and the services they provide."

"It is now up to the profession to continue to meet the expectations of those that depend on our work and to contribute to rebuilding confidence in financial markets."

Other important issues reported by the accountancy executives included the needs of small and medium businesses, the transition to International Standards on Auditing, and identifying fraud .
