Britain’s management accountants play a vital role in helping local councils meet their green targets, according to an industry expert.
A study conducted by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the Society of Information Technology Management (SOCTIM) revealed that 87 per cent of councils in the UK believe technology is key to achieving a sustainable future.
However, only four per cent believe they can meet government targets which stipulate that all their IT function should be carbon neutral by 2012.
CIMA sustainability specialist Helene Doody said the organisation "believes management accountants have a key role to play in this process, providing vital business intelligence to support strategy and influence long-term decision making."
Last week CIMA announced that it is to offer its Islamic Finance Certificate in Arabic in partnership with Jordan-based TAGITraining.
The organisation said TAGITraining will be responsible for translating the quaification so that it can be delivered throughout the Arabic-speaking world.
