A senior member of financial services firm Ernst and Young is to switch alliances by joining rival’s PricewaterhouseCoopers .

Paul Davies, who has worked as head of UK tax at Ernst and Young since July 2006, will take on the role of tax partner at PwC next May where he will help to develop key client accounts .

Commenting on the move, he said: "I am excited to be joining PwC and am impressed with the vision that the firm's leadership has of the future."

"I have made this decision because I want to work with the leading tax practice in the UK and globally."

Ian Powell, UK chairman of PwC, explained that Mr Davies' previous experience and seniority would complement the firm's current tax team, adding that the appointment was part of an ongoing recruitment programme.

PwC recently suggested that over 25 per cent of Brits are worried about how they will repay debts in the future and that out of the 16 per cent already struggling with repayments, very few are considering how to deal with their debts .
