One of UK’s top accountancy firms saw an increase of £14.2 million in turnover during the last six months of 2007, new figures have revealed.

BDO Stoy Hayward has announced that national turnover at the firm reached £159.8 million in the second half of the year.

Managing partner at the firm, Jeremy Newman, commented: "Our growth enables us to continue to invest to ensure we have the necessary capability, people, expertise and international reach to offer an exceptional, high quality client experience despite the increasingly challenging economic conditions we face."

Newman added that, along with expertise, company growth and success had been achieved by attracting and developing banking and finance employees in the audit and assurance sectors.

The firm’s rise in status was confirmed last year when it was named Employer of the Year at the 2007 Accountancy Age awards .

A ‘Global Financial Salary Guide’ by accounting firm Robert Half found that between 2006 and 2007 salaries in the financial sector reached a record high.

Annual salaries for assistant accountants increased by 25 per cent, now reaching an average of £19,500, while a chief financial accountant with six years experience can now command an average of £80,000 a year, according to the guide.
