The UKs accountancy industry has made steady progress in providing equal opportunities to employees, an accounting giant has claimed.
According to PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), accountancy firms have made "steady progress" in regard to dealing with gender and ethnic inequality, but added that disability-friendly recruitment and accountancy jobs in the industry still require further attention.
PWCs director of equality and inclusion, Sarah Churchman, said: "The accountancy profession has made steady progress with regards to gender and ethnic equality."
"Whether people are personally affected by a disability or not, firms need to take immediate steps to build a culture that promotes a better understanding of working with disability ."
Churchman added that accountancy firms could consider improving certain areas such as support infrastructure and the working environment for disabled members of staff .
The call for a more comprehensive equality policy comes as the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales starts the search for the best chartered accountants in the south-west.
