The UK’ wealthiest are avoiding up to £13 billion a year in tax payments, a new study has revealed.
A study of tax statistics by the TUC is expected to reveal later this week the extent of the exploitation of UK tax rules by the country’s super-rich.
The Observer reported that non-domiciles in the UK dodge £3.8 billion of tax, while income shifters avoid £3.2 billion of income tax by moving income into companies or through spouses.
TUC chief executive Brendan Barber said: "For years there has hardly been any debate about whether the tax system is fair.
"But a wise government would recognise the shift in public mood when they see police officers marching against a decision that a modest pay rise was unaffordable when it looks like tax has become optional for a small group of the super-rich."
