Accountants based in the north-west of England rate career progression and job location ahead of high pay as the most important factors in their work, new research has revealed.
A survey by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) found that despite receiving less than the UK average, money is not the "be-all and end-all" for accountants in the region.
According to reports by Accountancy Magazine, figures from the ICAEW and recruitment company Robert Half shows the average annual salary for an accountant in the north-west region stands at £62,600 with an average bonus of £12,600.
However, the UK average for an accountant is £74,400 plus £21,700 for bonuses, with those in London receiving an average annual income of £93,600 and a £39,500 bonus.
Rodger Owen, president of the Manchester Society of Chartered Accountants, said: "Salary levels obviously vary tremendously between the city of London and the north-west, but as the survey reveals, money is not the be-all and end-all as far as our members are concerned."
