Chartered accountants working within a business environment can earn an average salary of £76,200, a new study has revealed.
The findings from the latest Career Benchmarking Survey found that the average wage for a person starting their role as a chartered accountant was £48,600 during the first four years after graduation .
The survey, carried out by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales' (ICAEW), also revealed that the average salary for a male employee was also found to be 50 per cent higher than their female counterparts.
ICAEW chief executive Michael Izza stressed that "careful management and leadership" was required to get through the credit crunch.
"As our survey shows, ICAEW members are responding to this need, providing the skills and experience that ensure they continue to play a key role within all aspects of business and industry," he added.
Yvette Cooper, chief secretary of the Treasury, recently called on boardroom members to "show restraint" in their pay packet, according to the Financial Times .
