The north-west region has been identified as the fastest growing employer sector for banking and finance jobs, new research has revealed.
A study carried out by Manchester Metropolitan University found that the north-west finance and professional services industry currently has 428,800 employees, compared to 315,200 a decade ago.
Professor John Brooks, vice-chancellor of the University, said the region's changing employment environment has led to many UK universities giving higher priority to higher business-skills training .
Despite the rapid availability of finance jobs in the north-west region, the life sciences industry was found to be the biggest employment sector in the north-west, with 455,600 people currently working within the sector.
The research comes after property consultant Knight Frank announced earlier in the week that Liverpool could soon become a hotspot for those seeking jobs in the financial sector.
Over 7,000 new financial vacancies in Liverpool will be created over the next five years, which will help the northern city overcome the impact of the economic slowdown
