The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is looking to take onboard a qualified finance director, according to reports by Accountancy Age.
The MoD has launched a new campaign to help find a suitable candidate to take care of its £35 billion budget, which is the largest amount of government spending not managed by a qualified financial director .
The campaign is the first in a set of deadlines for the government to face up to its lack of financial skills and employ more permanent secretaries with accounting qualifications .
The Treasurys permanent secretary Nicholas Macpherson said the position was advertised before but "no-one came forward from the private sector".
A spokesman said that current finance director Trevor Woolley's job as head of the MoD's finance function appears to be coming to an end.
"The MoD employs many qualified accountants in the FD's area and Woolley routinely consults them in the course of his work."
