Accountancy And Finance Jobs Among Most Popular Career Choices For Graduates

Tue, 21 Oct 2008

The accountancy and finance sectors are popular career choices for both male and female graduates, according to new research.

A recent survey by Broadbean Technology, a developer of advert distribution technology, revealed that accountancy and finance jobs are the fourth most popular career choice for young males and the eighth most popular choice of occupation among female graduates .

The findings were based on responses to graduate accountancy vacancies in the UK . So far this year, there has been an average of seven responses for every vacant graduate accountancy position, up from five in 2007.

The research follows on from a recent Times survey which revealed that investment banking and the media were a graduate's top two job choices, with teaching a close second.

Commenting on the Times' findings, James Darley, director of graduate recruitment at Teach First, said: "Graduates are now saying that teaching in a challenging secondary school is one of the most prestigious things you can do."

However, Broadbean revealed that despite the number of graduates entering new careers, other research shows that more university leavers are finding it increasingly difficult to get a foot on the career ladder because of increased job competition.
