The common stereotypes held by the public of the accountants are out-dated, a new study has revealed.
Research commissioned by tax and accountancy provider CCH found that only 25 per cent of the public view the accountancy occupation as a dynamic, tech-savvy profession, compared to over half of UK accountants who hold the same opinion of their jobs .
The study also found that 74 per cent of accountants are iPod -users and 58 per cent are comfortable using social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace, dispelling the myth that they are "behind the times" when it comes to technology.
Accountants under the age of 25 hold the most positive views on their profession, with 60 per cent describing it as "energetic and full of enthusiasm".
Commenting on the findings, Martin Casimir, executive director at CCH, said: "Even in these hyper-PC times, it seems that accountants are still unfairly viewed as being behind the times."
"Despite embracing new ways of thinking and technologies in their professional and personal lives, they are still unable to ditch their stuffy label," he added.
