Qualified accountants are still in strong demand despite the current economic recession, a new study has revealed.
According to research by the Association of Charted Certified Accountants (ACCA), just under two thirds (63 per cent) of businesses across the globe will be looking to recruit more accounting and finance professionals in the near future.
The study also revealed that despite the global downturn, 27 per cent of the world’s firms expect to keep staffing levels the same, while just 9 per cent of respondents stated that they would be looking to reduce the number of qualified accountants they employ.
The ACCA said: "Qualified accountants have key roles to play in steering organisations through the current turmoil, enabling them to manage risks and take decisions effectively, while influencing strategic plans to drive future business growth."
Meanwhile, the Centre for Economics and Business Research has revealed that fewer jobs will be lost in the City of London during 2009 than previously expected.
Analysts had predicted that around 34,000 positions would be lost because of the recession, but the CEBR has estimated around 29,000 jobs will now be axed by the end of the year.
