An accountancy student from the West Midlands is celebrating after scoring the highest mark in the world in an accountancy exam .
Birmingham-based Rebecca Paterson received the joint top score for the ACCA's Advanced Taxation paper, beating 3,661 accountancy students from across the globe in the process.
Paterson, who works as a senior analyst in accounting separation at Ofwat (The Water Services Regulation Authority), said: "I am a really pleased to have done so well. I did not expect this as I returned to study five years after leaving university ."
She added: "Juggling a full-time job made it very challenging, not to mention the sheer size and depth of the courses."
Commenting on the achievement, ACCA director Wyn Mears said: "The papers within the ACCA qualification are very challenging and to have come top in such a competitive environment is exceptional".
The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is one of the worlds largest networks of professional accountants, with over 131,000 members and 362,000 students in 170 countries across the globe.
