Management Accountant To Teach Accountancy Skills In Rwanda

Thu, 29 Jan 2009

Staff at asset based lender Venture Finance have united together to support one of their co-workers who is due to embark on a three-month charity trip to Rwanda .

Management Accountant Glyn will next month fly out to Africa to work on behalf of Children's Care and Protection in Rwanda (CCPRWA), teaching basic accountancy skills to local community members.

Over the last month the Venture Finance team has raised over £300 in donations alone for the journey, which will be added to the money already collected and put forward to help pay for two Rwandan students to attend a two-year course at school and one month's breakfast for pre-school children.

The company has also agreed to cover the three-month cost of Glyn's travel insurance .

Glyn Edbrooke said: "Having already spent a couple of weeks in Rwanda it's clear that there is no shortage of ability among Rwandans, but it's the lack of expert knowledge and guidance that can hold them back."

"Knowing that I have Venture's full support behind me has been wonderful and I hope that I can bring back a number of new skills, to my current role."

Peter Ewen, Managing Director of Venture Finance added: "We're really pleased and excited for Glyn. This is a valuable experience to embark on and Venture is delighted to help where we can."

"We are more than confident that Glyn will deliver the skills and training that the community in Rwanda needs, as well as come back with something to teach us too!"

Glyn was introduced to CCPRWA, which provides support, care and education to underprivileged children of all ages in the country, through a company called 2Way Development.

The organisation organises tailor-made volunteer placements to match skills to the needs of global charities .

Managing Director 2Way Development MD, Katherine Tubb said good accounting skills are vital for most businesses and charities that they work with.
