The number of accounting professionals who joined the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants ) last year helped boost membership by over 7 per cent, latest figures have revealed.
Despite the economic recession, the world’s largest global professional accountancy body managed to attract some 9,000 members, the highest figure for the last five years.
The additions took the organisation’s global membership figure to 131,500 at the end of 2008, up 7.3 per cent on the previous year.
ACCA chief executive Helen Brand said: "While 2008 was a good year in terms of growth for ACCA, we were focused on the global economic conditions and worked to ensure members, students and the public were well informed about the issues".
Support for ACCA members is provided by 38 regional members' networks, one district society and six employment-based members' networks.
New members are automatically enrolled in their local regional network and the employment-based members' network relevant to their business sector.
