The company was the only representative from the Big 4 Accountancy firms included in the Sunday Times 60 Best Green Companies 2009 list, despite many firms in the profession boasting to have the best green credentials.

The professional services giant was ranked 24th in this year’s list, which is aimed at recognising outstanding, environmental performance, and 6th in the best big/medium-sized company with a low environmental impact.

Commenting on the rankings, PwC chairman Ian Powell said: "We work hard to incorporate not only economic but social and environmental considerations into the purchasing and operational decisions we make that impact on the environment."

He added: "In the current economic climate cost is important, but we will not compromise our sustainability objectives in our selection of goods, services, or how we operate as a business ."

"PwC will look to work with staff to make sure that further improvements in the area are made."

The Sunday Times Best Green Companies list is based on the findings of two surveys; one on the environmental management policies set by the company, and one on how employees rate their firm's green credentials.
