Recession Driving Demand For Accountants And Bookkeepers

Tue, 19 May 2009

Demand for accountants and bookkeepers will continue during the recession as businesses attempt to keep a closer eye on their finances, an industry expert has claimed.

Malcolm Trotter, chief executive of the International Association of Bookkeepers (IAB), said that firms are increasingly looking for staff who can help them maintain up-to-date records.

He added that a shortage of skills in this sector means there are growing opportunities for finance professionals with the necessary qualifications.

The IAB chief explained: "For people who are looking to give themselves more opportunity for the future, now is the time to go out there and do a bookkeeping course or to improve their skills in bookkeeping and accounting ."

"That's because those jobs will come through again if they're not already there as we come out of the recession, hopefully later this year or early next year."

The claim comes a month after research by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) revealed that 63 per cent of firms across the globe are looking to recruit more accounting and finance professionals in the coming year.

The IAB is the leading international membership body for professional book-keepers and specialises in providing high level, financial and business qualifications for financial professionals and owners/managers of small businesses .
