Most chartered accountants in Scotland are satisfied with their salaries despite a number of firms freezing pay and reducing bonuses, new research has revealed.
The annual salary survey by CA Magazine, the official publication of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS), found that over two-thirds of the 1500 ICAS members remain happy with their pay.
Just under 60 per cent of those questioned said they were satisfied with their salaries and 11 per cent very satisfied with their current income, even though half of firms have frozen basic pay and 65 per cent frozen, cut or scrapped bonuses due to the tough economic climate.
According to the magazine, the number of chartered accountants working longer hours has fallen by 5 per cent since the start of the year, although the proportion working 55 hours or more has remained at around 10 per cent.
Commenting on the survey, ICAS chief executive Anton Colella, said: "The survey suggests that CAs appear to recognise and accept that their organisations have had to make difficult choices in the current economic circumstances."
"This should hopefully contribute to a sense of stability within their businesses at a time when it is most needed."
