Many UK accountants are still spending more time in the office than they would like, a new study has revealed.
Research carried out for online accountancy systems provider E-conomic showed that some 86 per cent of accounting professionals across the country regularly work past their normal hours, with nearly 40 per cent of these often having to work into the night.
The study said that companies looking to attract the best workers should ensure they make the issue of work-life balance a priority.
It said: "These considerations also have a potential impact on our future talent pool as new blood comes through the ranks."
"In a 2008 survey of Oxbridge graduates, a majority in every sector said they would prioritise work-life balance when thinking about their career ."
However, a recent study by global payments company American Express revealed that 92 per cent of young British workers in all sectors of employment are struggling to maintain a good work-life balance.
