PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) remains the top international auditor, according to financer researchers Hemscott .
New data from the group revealed that the Big 4 firm gained three lucrative FTSE 100 clients in the wake of the financial crisis.
However, rival firm KPMG still has the largest number of overall clients on its books at 381 - 44 clients more than its nearest rival, PwC, according to the research.
Despite this, Hemscott said the list of top end auditors remains largely unchanged, with PwC still ahead of its competitors with 40 clients within the FTSE 100, followed by KPMG (25), Deloitte (21) and Ernst and Young (15).
Hemscott added that overall its been a tough year for the audit industry, with all frontrunners losing clients.
Despite losing eight contracts, Grant Thornton remains the number one auditor of companies on the Alternative Investment market, with a total of 197 clients.
