Top Award For Ulster Universitys Management Accountancy Tuition Team

The Department of Accounting at the University of Ulster has been recognised by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants for the high quality of CIMA tuition provided.

The Northern Ireland university, which is ranked as the world’s sixth Best CIMA tuition provider, was named the Top NI CIMA Tuition Provider at the CIMA annual awards dinner, which was held in Belfast’s City Hall.

The award was based on the CIM exam scores attained by the university’s students .

University of Ulster accounting lecturer Tom McStraw received the award for Best CIMA Tutor, while colleague Professor Robert Kirk was the recipient of a special award in recognition of his significant contribution, as a non-CIMA member, to the professional development of CIMA members.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Ray Baxter, President of CIMA in Northern Ireland, said the accolades recognised the outstanding accountancy talent that universities and colleges are helping to nurture.

He commented: "Northern Ireland needs a vibrant management accountancy profession that is at the top of its game to help rebuild a successful local economy and address the financial challenges that lie ahead. Management accountants can play a pivotal role in that re-growth."

CIMA is the world’s largest professional body of management accountants, CIMA Launch Fast-Track Route To Management Accowith 172,000 members and students based in 165 countries. The Institute’s Northern Ireland branch has 1,500 members and students.
