Deloitte, the worlds largest accountancy firm, has named David Sproul as its new CEO and senior partner.
The company has confirmed that Sproul, who has more than 24 years experience in the industry, will succeed current chief John Connolly on 1 June 2011.
Sproul was appointed UK head of tax at the Big Four firm in 2006. He is a member of the UK board of directors and is also managing partner for tax in Deloittes Europe, Middle East and Africa regions.
Other previously held positions at the company include managing partner for consulting and advisory services and managing partner for talent.
"I am delighted to be elected by my fellow partners to lead our firm," Sproul said. "It is a privilege to become CEO of Deloitte and a responsibility that I take on with enormous pride."
"An exciting future lies ahead as we open the next chapter in shaping our business, taking a lead in responding to the government's growth and competitiveness agenda for the UK, and to our clients' demands in a rapidly changing world."
"A decade of exceptional leadership from John Connolly has seen Deloitte transformed into a leading professional services firm. I look forward to building on this success, focussing on the exceptional breadth and quality of service we offer to our clients, and to making a career at Deloitte the most fulfilling and exciting experience for our exceptional partners and people."
John Connolly, who has been Deloittes top accountant for more than a decade, commented: "Our partners have elected David with a massive show of support and he has a clear mandate to continue building Deloitte and achieving market distinction."
"As we move through a short transition period all Deloitte people will be focused on supporting our clients as they continue to face challenging markets."
