The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has banned a former KPMG trainee from provisional membership over expenses fraud .
Vikas Gupta from Manchester admitted submitting more than £25,000 in false expense claims while working for KPMG .
Mr Gupta had been employed by the Big Four firm on a short term contract after failing his accountancy exams but was fired when the company discovered the expenses fraud .
Gupta said he made the false claims in order to fund his online gambling habits and clear his growing debts .
He added that he was now attending Gambling Anonymous to help tackle his addiction, and was also working for a new firm.
The ICAEW tribunal concluded that Gupta should be ineligible for re-registration in provisional membership for 12 months and severely reprimanded.
However, no order of costs was made against him due to his lack of funds.
