Financial recruitment firm Robert Half has revealed a list of the five "hottest" jobs for accountants in 2010.
According to the firm, accountancy professionals should be looking to land one of the following roles this year: financial accountant ; financial planning and analysis manager; assistant accountant; cost accountant or financial analyst; and compliance manager or risk manager .
Explaining its choices, the recruiter said that cost accountants or financial analysts, for example, are currently in high demand because of their ability to manage budgets and assess the viability and sustainability of a business.
Clive Davis, director at Robert Half UK, commented: "As we move into a recovery period the need for expert accounting and finance professionals to help companies navigate through this economic climate is critical."
The news comes after a new study by international recruitment consultancy Badenoch and Clark revealed that accountancy recruitment in the UK is beginning to pick up as the economy starts to recover.
The firm claims that more than a fifth of companies are looking to fill accounting positions, with many stating that currently lack staff with the skills required to achieve growth targets for the coming financial year.
