An accountant who stole nearly half a million pounds to fund her wedding, properties and cars has been sentenced to two years in jail.

Joanne Kent admitted to one count of theft and one of fraud at Wolverhampton Crown Court after it was heard how she stole £470,000 from her ex employer Wilson UK by moving cash into her own accounts.

The 26-year-old admitted to spending £50,000 of the stolen cash to fund her lavish wedding, which included hiring out a beachfront hotel and a fireworks display.

Earlier this week, an ex-ACCA president and former health service finance chief pleaded guilty to stealing £20,000 from his relatives.

Dennis Yeates, who was president of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in 2006, pleaded guilty at Warwick Crown Court to a charge of theft and was handed an eight month prison sentence, suspended for two years.

The sentence was suspended after it was heard that Mr Yeates has since borrowed money from his sister to repay the cash that he claimed he was investing for his step-son and daughter-in-law.

46-year-old from Worcester was also ordered to pay £500 costs and carry out 180 hours of unpaid work.
