Demand for accounting and finance professionals in the UK is set to increase this year, according to the Research and Employment Confederation (REC).
The REC claims accountants will become more sought after as companies increase their focus on research and financial risk control.
It also forecast that salaries in the profession will rise at a steady rate this year, with the best salaries going to those in audit, risk and financial control roles.
Bill Haynes, chair of the REC, said that financial skills and expertise will be at a premium in both the public and private sector.
He predicted that the number of public sector finance jobs will grow throughout the year due to the expected increase in the call for capable finance resources.
According to information services company PublicTechnology.net, trainee accountants will receive an average salary of around £20,000 this year, rising to up to £40,000 for those working in London.
Mr Haynes added that workers who "display a high level of emotional intelligence and commercial awareness" will earn the most.
