Finance Director Salaries On The Rise

Tue, 05 Jan 2010

Finance directors of the biggest listed companies in the UK have seen their salaries increase by nearly 4 per cent over the last year, according to new research from the Reward Technology Forum (RTF).

The research shows that the average income for FTSE 100 finance directors (FDs) in 2008-2009 rose 3.8 per cent to £475,602 on the previous year.

In addition, FDs also saw their turnover grow due to an increase in demand for financial skills, driven by the recent economic downturn.

Peter Newhouse, co-founder of the RTF, said: "These are turbulent times for the FTSE 100 and good finance directors, the ones with mobile skills across industries, are in demand."

Despite the increase in salaries last year, the RTF found that the average value of FDs' bonuses, pension packages and benefits dropped by over 16 per cent year-on-year.

Meanwhile separate research carried out by accountancy giant Deloitte has revealed that finance directors in the UK are optimistic about their companies' prospects in 2010 and more willing to take financial risk.

Deloitte chief economist Ian Stewart said: " Businesses are lifting their eyes from the recession and looking for growth in 2010. The economy and the financial system are a long way from normal but things are looking up."
