The number of people registered with the Association of Chartered, Certified Accountants (ACCA) has risen to 140,000, the global accountancy body has revealed.
Latest figures from the ACCA showed that membership across 170 countries has grown to 140,000 up 6.5 per cent from December 2008.
The number of student members has also continued to increase, rising from 366,000 to 404,000 over the same period, according to the data.
Helen Brand, chief executive of the ACCA, said that the growing membership figures underline that accountancy is still viewed across the globe as an attractive career option.
She added: "Accountants' skills are more important than ever, to restore confidence in the global economy, to help businesses large and small to identify and manage costs and deliver sustainable growth."
The ACCA is the largest and fastest-growing global professional accountancy body in the world, providing world-class accounting and finance qualifications to members in 170 countries.
