PwC To Take On Record Number Of Spring Graduates

Tue, 18 May 2010

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), one of the ‘Big Four’ accountancy firms, has announced it is to take on more UK graduates this spring than ever before.

The firm revealed that 153 graduates will join its early intake training scheme - the largest number to date - following an 88 per cent rise in applications for the spring scheme.

The latest additions are part of the company’s 2010 recruitment strategy, which according to PwC chairman and senior partner, Ian Powell, is about "displaying ambition and growth in the market", rather than maintaining numbers.

Mr Powell said: "Keeping our doors open to new talent and experience during the recession fuels our business growth strategy in the recovery."

"The fact we have had to increase this year's spring intake speaks volumes for the return on investment for holding our nerve on graduate recruitment during the recession because we've attracted and retained the best people."

The number of accountancy graduates joining the PwC team so far this year has increased by 22 per cent on the same period last year. During the recession, the Big Four firm claims it created 20 new intern and full-time jobs each week.

Last September, PwC was named the top graduate employer in the UK by The Times for the sixth year in a row. The firm was also voted top finance employer 2009.
