Two senior figures from accountancy firm Ernst and Young and fuel giant BP have joined Deloitte’s tax management consultancy practice.

Josef Macdonald has been recruited from E&Y to take on the role of director at Deloitte’s tax management group, while ex-BP employee Fiona Jones has been appointed associate partner.

Macdonald was previously the leader of XBRL - a computer language for tagging tax information on reports - at E&Y. He also led the International Accounting Standards Board’s (IASB) XBRL team from 2003 to 2007.

He continues to sit on the IASB's advisory panel and the XBRL International Steering Committee.

Fiona Jones held a number of senior roles at BP including head of its global tax technology network.

Alan MacPherson, head of the tax management consulting practice at Deloitte, underlined the importance of reporting to increase transparency and risk management .

He explained: "This is especially pertinent at the moment with the introduction of mandatory iXBRL e-filing in under five months time and the pressure is on for businesses to decide on their iXBRL approach."
