More Accountants Seeking Help With Debt, Stress And Other Personal Issues

Tue, 16 Nov 2010

A new specialist support team has been put together by the Chartered Accountants Benevolents Association (CABA) to help support the growing number of young accountants suffering from stress, drink and drug abuse .

Over the last twelve months the CABA has recruited a dedicated team to handle issues affecting accountancy professionals between the ages of 30 and 50, including stress, debt, health and family problems.

Chief executive Kath Haines said the profile of people who seek their help "has changed dramatically in recent years", with the association previously focusing on providing financial support to older and retired members.

She explained: "The people who now approach CABA tend to be younger and have a wide range of problems covering everything from stress and its symptoms such as drink and drug misuse, through to those who have debt issues or need help to cope with supporting multiple families, health problems and debt ."

"Of course, it is important to stress that CABA will continue to fulfil its traditional role but we now have a much broader and, we believe, more effective way of supporting those who approach us for help."
