KPMG To Add 8,000 Staff To European Workforce

Big Four accountancy firm KPMG has launched a new recruitment drive that will see it take on 8,000 new staff across its European offices over the next three years.

According to the Financial Times, the move will increase KPMG's workforce to 38,000 in Europe, excluding France and Italy, and from 11,000 to 14,000 in the UK.

Earlier this year, rival firm Deloitte announced plans to hire more than 55,000 staff worldwide over the next five years, while Ernst and Young is expected to announce its recruitment plans later today.

The FT said demand for new employees is being driven by a rise in financial and manufacturing companies seeking advice on how to restructure their businesses, reduce costs and adapt to the numerous regulatory changes introduced as a result of the financial crisis.

John Griffith-Jones, joint senior partner of KPMG Europe, said: "It’s been a couple of difficult years but we see lots of opportunities opening up again."

KPMG was recently ranked second in an index of the world's most appealing employers, followed by Ernst and Young, PwC and Deloitte in places three, four and five respectively.

Internet giant Google topped the rankings, which were complied by Stockholm-based research company Universum.
