HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has established a new tax academy to ensure high standards among Britains accountancy professionals are maintained.
The new initiative allows the departments accountants to obtain Tax Professional Qualifications, which will be accredited by Manchester Metropolitan University, and achieve external recognition.
Mike Falvey, chief people officer at HMRC, said: "I think this is a great opportunity for HMRC and our tax professionals, to achieve a step-change in our approach to developing our capability, improving our service to customers and stakeholders and being recognised as the centre of tax professionalism in the UK."
Dave Hartnett, permanent secretary for tax, said that new academy will help taxpayers receive "faster and better access to the skills and knowledge they need, which is vital to HMRC's success".
HMRC has also launched its new tax deadline calendar for the 2011-12 tax year, which sets out the key fixed and variable dates over the coming year for UK taxpayers and their accountants.
The dates are split into employer obligations and income tax deadlines, with July the busiest month of the year.
