Recruitment consultants have stated that there has been another decrease in the number of people put into permanent jobs in December, with accounting and financial services witnessing a drop in demand for temporary and permanent staff for the second consecutive month.
In spite of the figures, recruiters are staying optimistic with members reporting a healthy start to 2012.
December was not slower than anticipated, with some clients releasing vacancies upon returning from the Christmas holidays. There are further clients who are talking positively for the upcoming quarter.
Demand is evident from employers in manufacturing, professional and engineering services. However, the feedback is that there is a lack of quality candidates for accountants' roles.
The Recruitment and Education Confederation is working closely with the Financial Skills Partnership to improve the generation of candidates in this area. However, it is necessary for more work to be undertaken in this area to improve the quality of candidates.
