Accountants Stress Levels are High

The mental health of accountants is not improving; excessive stress is the primary cause, new evidence suggests.

The number of calls the Chartered Accountants’ Benevolent Association is getting from accountants who seem to be developing mental health problems, or consider that they are at risk of doing so, is increasing.

The evidence is not conclusive given that the helpline does not offer medical diagnosis however the numbers of calls have increased in the second half of 2011.

Individuals are feeling that they are heading towards a possible breakdown. People are displaying symptoms of mental illness which they may not be aware of.

Economic worries as well as a lack of family time due to long working hours could also contribute to this growing problem.
